Research Advisory Council

The Council is the intellectual backbone of the institute. Composed of leading academics, community practitioners, and financial institution representatives, the Council guides how JBI designs, develops, and prioritizes its research — ensuring that our work is both academically rigorous and grounded in the communities it serves.

Council members are selected to reflect the full range of perspectives that financial equity research demands: the communities most affected, the institutions that shape policy, and the scholars who study the intersection of both.

  1. Research design
    Council members advise on how JBI structures its research questions, methodologies, and data collection approaches — ensuring academic rigor and community relevance.
  2. Research development
    Members provide ongoing review and guidance as research progresses — validating findings, identifying gaps, and connecting JBI with relevant literature and practitioners.
  3. Research prioritization
    The Council helps JBI determine which research questions will have the greatest impact — balancing academic value, policy relevance, and community need.
